| The universe in MAC Heavenly Creature Collection. |
On July 5th 2012,
MAC released the
Heavenly Creature collection. This collection features everything from celestial themed lipstick to volcanic ash exfoliate. What stood out to me in this collection was
Mineralize Eye Shadow. The eyeshadows in this collection are baked with multiple colors swirled together adorned with universe themed name. They range from neutral to daring.

At first I really wasn't impressed. The $20 price tag per shadow wasn't helping me lean toward it either, that is, until I saw the way these shadows can be used. That's what I am going to share with you today.

Each mineral eyeshadow in the heavenly creature by MAC has a pearlesq/shimmer/frost quality that can be applied dry, wet, or simply over primer to achieve different effects. The shadow can be blended in the pot or you can choose individual parts of the swirls. Needless to say these shadows are so versatile that an entire eye look can be created from one shadow, in fact, many looks can be created from one small shadow. This makes these shadows so unique.

Water-
This shadow is absolutely beautiful. While I was a little disappointed that the one I received has a very limited amount of blue, I was pleased over all. This shadow can lean toward a dark olive green to a blue green, even a bright shimmery yellow. I love the neon green, bright yellow peal green, and the sparkly blue that is included in this shadow. By using makeup brushes I was able to isolate the colors I wanted to apply. For this product I suggest a wet primer. Once applied do not blend in as well as stick primer. This will help the pigments to be more apparent. If you want to use this as a shimmer or even a frost over matte colors apply makeup as normal and dust over gently. This color may seem intimidating but you can use it both subtly or dramatically and everywhere in between. The quality is exactly what you pay for so don't expect to run out of this color too soon.

Sky-
With all the benefits I have already mentioned about this product I will simply describe to you the many ways this color can be applied. This shade is a swirl of dark blue, medium blue, and gold. You can use the gold on your inner eye lids nearest the nose and and blend out into the medium blue. The dark blue can be used as a crease and outer V color that blends naturally up to the brow. Maybe add a little gold to under the brow. I like the way the dark blue and the gold mix; the dark blue obtains shimmery gold sparkles. Since this is darker color you can forgo the primer to make it appear lighter on the skin or apply wet/primer to have full pigmentation. If you choose to use it wet i suggest you wet your brush lightly and tap off excess water before bringing it to the shadow. Smaller makeup brushes are suggested for isolating singular colors. You must wait for the color to dry on your lid or you will risk creasing.

Bright Moon-
This shadow is a mix of silver, light blue, and a medium muted blue. This color can appear silver if you focus on areas of the shadow that are predominately silver are are useful as an inner eye color or under brow color. This is also great as a lid color that blends into the darker shades of Sky. I bought this color to use as a blending color rather than a stand alone shadow like the ones mentioned above. I think this would show up better on darker skin since that would allow the light blue and silver to appear different rather than similar in color. This is one of the more subtle colors of the Heavenly Creature Mineralize Eye Shadow Collection.

Black Radiance, though a brand for those with a darker complexion, has released baked mineral eye shadow very similar to the MAC Heavenly Creature Mineralize Eye Shadow called
Color Baked Eye Color Eyeshadow. Along with looking very similar they apply similar and come in similar colors. The theme of these shadows is confection.

Silver Frosting is similar to Bright Moon, Blue Icing is similar to Sky and, Mint Julep is similar to water. While these are much smaller than MAC they are as pigmented and you can achieve a similar look with these much cheaper products. $3.99 VS. $20.

Sky VS. Blue Icing-
Blue Icing lacks the golden ribbon that is in Sky, so don't expect any gold shimmer. However, the colors are nearly identical in every other way. You are still able to isolate the dark parts and the light parts. You are able to use Blue Icing wet, dry, or over primer. Blue Icing is a pearlesq/frost/shimmer and can be used in every other way described above. Blue Icing is a little more pigmented than Sky.

Water VS. Mint Julep-
These look very different don't they? Their application, not so different. Mint Julep is swirls of green, copper and white. It applies much more green than it looks swirled together. The main difference is it lacks blue, so when isolating the colors of Mint Julep you wont get much darker than the ribbons of dark green. Since this product apply's more gold you can isolate the copper/gold as a lid color, the white as an under brow and inner corner and use the dark green as a crease and outer V color. You can use Mint Julep wet, dry, or over primer.

Bright Moon VS. Silver Frosting-
So these two aren't that much alike but can be used in the same manner that i mentioned above in my review on Bright Moon. Silver Frosting has ribbons of silver, white, and dark navy. You can isolate these colors to create a nice blended look. Silver on the lid with dark navy on the inner and outer corners plus the V. My Bright moon seriously lacks any of the medium blue so i feel that Silver Frosting has an advantage in that it has a dark color addition to create more looks. I believe both these shadows are best suited as inner eye, under brow, and shadow that is blended into darker shadow.
