OPI Nail Lacquer Mariah Carey Liquid Sand Collection Review and Swatches

OPI Mariah Carey Liquid Sand Nail Polish in Stay the Night, The Impossible, Get Your Number, Can't Let Go
You may have seen lately the new trend of textured polishes. Polishes that try matte and often have a rough, raised, feeling and sometimes glitter or shimmer. It is a very unique concept and change from normal matte polishes and certainly more wearable than velvet nails (which i love regardless of how tedious the up keep is) and caviar nails, giving texture and a 3d look without having to worry about things falling off or keeping up with it as much. These liquid sand polishes from OPI were released with the Mariah Carey Collection. These shades reflect her fun and bright personality while still offering a decent selection of colors to choose from.

The formula of these polishes, which i covered a bit in the introduction, are a matte polish with glitter and sand. When these polishes dry they become matte leaving the sand raised and glitter dispersed throughout. There is a bit of a process involved with applying these polishes and those who are in a rush may not have the patience for this, the outcome is beautiful though. First you start with a base coat. I usually use one that masks my nail imperfections like peeling and ridges but OPI Liquid sand does a good job of this on it's own so really any base coat will do. Apply your first coat and wait ten minuets for it to dry completely matte. Apply a second coat and wait for that to dry for ten minuets. No top coat required! If you really do not like the matte look and feel you can add a coat or two of clear top coat to make this polish into a beautiful glossy, glitter polish. I found this polish to last a full 7 days on my nails with only very minimal chipping.

The shades included in the Liquid Sand OPI Mariah Carey collection are Stay the Night, The Impossible, Get Your Number, Can't Let Go. Stay the Night is a black black sand base with red glitter. The black sand looks a lot darker in the bottle than on the nail but it still allows the red glitter to stand out. The Impossible is a bright pink/red sand with red glitter and silver stars. The silver stars are scattered pretty scarcely throughout the polish. I had to fish one out for this swatch and it is barely visible. The Impossible is a blue sand base with holographic glitter. In the bottle it looks highly holographic but on the nail the glitter is a bit subdued and the sand dominates over it. Can't Let Go is a purple sand with varying sizes purple glitter dispersed throughout. This shade is most true to the look inside the bottle.

Overall the Liquid Sand polishes from the OPI Mariah Carey collection are a great way to wear glitter polish without being too flashy. While most of these shades are a little more mellow on the nails they still are a unique choice due to their texture. The polish time can be a little annoying but their lasting power on the nails makes it worth it. You can pick these shades up here!
