My Favorite Cosmetics of the Rainbow- Green

So today id like to discuss my favorite green cosmetics! As i mentioned in my purple entry i am showcasing all of my favorite cosmetics from the rainbow and i am doing it a little out of order.

This entry will highlight my favorite green shadows, glitters, liner, and even lipstick (yes i said lipstick!). Green can be a great color to play with especially on the eyes. A lot of people feel that green should only be worn if you have green eyes or on saint Patrick's day, i very much disagree. There are green eyeshadows and liners that can bring out any color eye from brown, hazel, even blue, and shades that can be worn without looking too dramatic (unless you want dramatic, there are products for that too!) So if you haven't given green a chance maybe this post can inspire you to check out the broad range of cosmetics that come in green!

 Favorite Green Glitters:
Medusa's Makeup Glitter- Neon Green
Now this glitter really lives up to its name, fine specs of neon green. I wouldn't really define this as a glitter since it doesn't have the sparkle of a glitter but it definitely adds demention when placed over eyeshadow, or just over primer, lipstick, lip gloss, or added to nail polish! This glitter is completely versatile and that's why i had to list it as number 1!

There is a little bit of blue on this cap since the glitters are stackable.

MAC Glitter Pigment in Crystallized Lime-
Now this is a true glitter! It has sparkle, it is glittery, and it is very fine. Unfortunately this color is no longer available through the MAC store. This can be layered over eyeshadow for demention, can be added to lip gloss, placed over primer, or added to nail polish. This glitter has many uses just as the one above does. The difference between this glitter and the one above is this one is recommended against using on the eyelid. So why did i mention it? Because there are careful and safe ways to use glitter as an eye shadow. You must make sure that your eye is closed when applying and that it is stuck on either with primer or using a liquid glitter base. Try not to rub your eyes. And to remove any excess glitter that you see falling on your eyelashes simply use a mascara wand (they are very cheap at beauty supply stores) to prevent any from entering your eye and scratching your cornea. Also make sure to use a good makeup remover so that all the glitter is removed before sleeping. (These tips also apply to the glitter above and any glitter labeled for eye use)

My Favorite Green Palette:
Maybelline Eye Studio Color Explosion in Forest Fury-

When Maybelline came out with these palettes i was more than ecstatic. I love each and every one of these since the colors are so fantastic together and alone and they allow you to really create many different eyeshadow looks. This palette includes a base shadow, lid shadow, crease shadow, liner, and high lighter - i use the base shadow (bottom triangle) as a lid color, the lid shadow (left triangle) as a crease, the crease shadow (right triangle) as an outer corner, and use the high lighter (top triangle) as an under the brow high lighter instead of an all over brightener because i feel when applying it over the other shadows it can mess up blending that has been done, and does not show up as brightly. If you apply these colors over your bare lid they will be much more muted than shown in my swatches. I always apply over a primer to make the colors pop. So if your looking for something a little more subtle just don't use a primer or a base on your lids.

Favorite Stand Alone Green Eyeshadows:
Milani Runway Eyes in #07 Leaf Green-
When i first saw this collection i was stunned. You get a generous amount of eyeshadow in an eye popping  color, plus you can use this color dry or wet. When it is wet you can almost paint it on your lids. This is pretty good for a drugstore brand. I usually apply this shadow dry but over a thick amount of primer so that i get the most color payoff without actually having to wait for it to dry. This also ensures that there are no creases and that the color remains all day. Using this color dry it comes off as more of a green shimmer and is subtle enough for someone who usually doesn't use bright colors.

This is just about the brightest green eyeshadow ive ever seen. It pops even without any primer so this will probably never look subtle unless your great at blending with other neutral colors. When applied over a primer this shadow really is a bright almost neon green. So if your brave this is the color and the brand for you!

Let me start by saying i love the packing on these eyeshadows. There is a small button in front that opens up to the eyeshadow and a small mirror which has come in handy. Each color has their own design on the front. This one has graffiti styled letters to represent the color. This is a dark green, the eyeshadow itself is very soft, so be careful and gentle with it. Since it is a deep green this color is good for creases and outer corners and also as a liner. I love blending lighter greens into this color. These shadows are a little bit on the expensive side but they do last a very long time.

I have heavily used this shadow and still have a good amount left.

Favorite Green Mineral Eyeshadow:
This green is very muted, very matte, and very smooth. When applied over bare skin this mineral eyeshadow can be very subtle but when applied over a primer this color becomes very opaque. It is a bit on the blue side so it can be blended with either blue or green.  Since it is mineral makeup it is very soft so only a little bit is needed.

Favorite Green Liner:
I got this pencil back in my early 20s, but it still holds up against my more grown up collection. While this can be used as both a lip and eye pencil (perfect for that green lipstick i keep mentioning!), i use it more as an eye pencil. I love to apply this under my lids for a 60's/80's look. This pencil goes on creamy, does not tug at the lid, and is very opaque. It reminds me of the green eye pencil (Power Point Pencil in Emerald Sea) that was released with the Hey Sailor! collection that MAC just released. I felt for once that i was ahead of a trend with this pencil!

Favorite Green Cream Liner:
I really wouldn't call this color teal since it is really a dark green, just to address the name. As for the product itself, it applies very creamy, very pigmented, and and it lasts all day. Since it is a cream it has to be applied with a brush which comes with these cream liners. I prefer to use a thicker brush than the one that is supplied because when using a cream liner i like to have the dramatic winged effect that is sometimes hard to achieve with liquid liner, pen liner, or pencil liner. One thing i must point out with these liners, they do not last as long as other liners due to their consistency. Keep the jar tightly closed and only open it when your using it. The more it is exposed to air the quicker it will dry up. Also remember to clean your brushes, cream liners like this can harbor bacteria which will also break down the product faster.

Favorite Green Lipstick:
This is the most dramatic product in this entire list, and i love it.  This is one for the daring, wearing this will have all eyes on you. Don't get me wrong this color is great for green themed holidays or even to represent your favorite sports team, but i just love it because it adds that extremely unconventional amount of color to your look. I love how confident i feel when i wear something most girls wouldn't dare to. When wearing this its best to down play aspects, like simple shadow, and minimal accessories. Think of this lipstick as your accessory and you can make it work. It is opaque and semi matte. It applies pretty evenly, and lasts for about 3 hours. This lipstick has no scent.

Just a side note:

This little boy couldn't help himself. Every time i tried to take a picture of a swatch or a product he would say cheese and try to take the camera. So i had to include a picture of my little boy. =]

  1. Yes, the green entry! My favorite post of your thus far. I might be a little biased because green is one of my favorite colors but I also love the photos. They are great. (The photo of Matthew at the end is too adorable by the way.) Thank you for sharing your favorite green cosmetics, I might check out some of them.
